Progress of No 57 Junior Commanders Course

The Wartime Application Module

The Wartime Application module was conducted on 25 June 2018 for the Student Officers of No. 57 Junior Commanders Course.

The Wartime Application Module is designed to educate the Student Officers on Air Power Application as per the taxonomy and the contribution of SLAF towards the successful completion of ‘North and East Humanitarian Operations’. The lectures were conducted in the form of interactive sessions to give the opportunity to share the experiences. A separate central discussion was held at the end of the lectures for the students to clarify their doubts with the participation of all Specialist Officers who conducted the lectures during the day.



The Air Power Module Completed Successfully


The Air Power Module was successfully completed with exercise “Neighbourland” on 23 June 2018. Lectures and syndicate discussions were conducted on Air Power and formal appreciation writing prior to the exercise from 12 June 2018 onwards.

During the exercise, Student Officers in 4 Sub Syndicates got the opportunity to write appreciations on a conflict between two countries on a fictitious setting.  The Student Officers were also given the chance to discuss and defend their Air Plans in a common forum with the participation of all 4 Sub Syndicates members on the last day of the exercise.

The overall aim was achieved as the Student Officers effectively planned and briefed the appreciations and air operation plans with the guidance and supervision of the Directing Staff.

On the following day, Student Officers completed the writing of an Operations Order individually, taking into consideration the given outline plan (a comprehensive plan was given to students based on their final submissions of the exercise).



USA Country Presentation of No. 57 JCC

The country presentation on the United States of America was conducted by the USAF Student, Major Jeffry R. Dallas of No. 57 Junior Commanders Course on 18th June 2018 at the Auditorium of the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

The overall aim of this presentation is to afford the opportunity for the Student Officer to present about his motherland in front of an audience representing different countries.
   
Country Presentation of No. 57 JCC


The Country presentation of Sri Lankan Students of No. 57 Junior Commanders Course was held on 05th June 2018 at the auditorium of the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

The overall aim of this presentation is to avail the opportunity for the Students Officers to present about their motherland in front of an audience representing different countries.
  

Practice Dining Night of the No.57 JCC

As a part of the Junior Commanders Course, the “Practice Dining Night” of the No. 57 JCC was conducted on 31 May 2018 at the Officers’ Mess of SLAF Academy China Bay with the participation of 29 Student Officers including 4 Foreign Officers, Directing and Permanent Staff and the Commanding Officer.

 The function was conducted as per the guidelines on conducting a Dinning Night with the presence of the Programme Band in order to convey correct understanding to the Student Officers on the procedure of a formal dining night.
 

Course Picnic of the No 57 JCC


The ‘Course Picnic’ of the No 57 Junior Commanders Course was held at Nilaveli Beach Hotel on 20 May 2018.

The course picnic offers the Student Officers and Permanent Staff an opportunity to interact with each other and to enjoy some leisure and entertainment.

A committee including a Sponsor DS and Student Officers were nominated to organize the event.  The committee forwards a proposal for the event and once approval is obtained, they are tasked with organizing the various aspects of the event.  This exposes the Student Officers to the full range of organizing activities from finding suitable locations, selecting menus and other requirements according as per their budget to planning different entertainment/ team building activities during the picnic.


Mock Conference of No. 57 JCC

The Exercise Mock Conference of No. 57 Junior Commanders Course, a part of the Administration Module was held on 15th May 2018 at Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

This exercise helps students to get the exposure of a conference with the attendance of relevant appointments holders of the Station. After the conference, the Student Officers write the minutes of the conference as an assessed exercise of the Administration Module.


Opening of the Newly Constructed JC&SC Auditorium Building at SLAF Academy Chinabay


The newly constructed Junior Command and Staff College Auditorium at SLAF Academy China Bay was declared open by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathi during the Annual Commander’s Inspection on 11th May 2018. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on 24th August 2017.  The building consists of an auditorium, two Syndicate Rooms and a Computer Lab.
