ADC&CC Turns 6

The nerve center of the National Air Defence Network, Air Defence Command & Control Center celebrated it’s 6Th formation day on 29 Mar 12.

The legend begins with the initial establishment of an Air Defence Operations Center with limited facilities in January 2006. The Air Defence Network developed rapidly and the present ADC&CC was officially established on 29Th March 2006 under the command of Wg Cdr SCK Pallawela. Since then, the Air Defence network has spread out and improved all over the country with many Air Defence assests. This center was further developed under the guidance of Air Cdre GP Bulathsinhala, Gp Capt PKDT Jayasinghe and Gp Capt S Hendawitharana.

Presently, seven separate radar squadrons are established under the operational command of ADC&CC covering the national airspace. Further, more than 150 gunners who are specially trained for Mobile Observation duties are deployed at specially selected locations under the control of ADC&CC for visual observation and reporting. Other than that missile posts and fire control radars have been positioned covering Vulnerable Areas and Points in the country.

On 29th Mar 12, the 6th formation day celebrations began with religious activities at Abeysekararamaya, Agurukamulla, Negombo.Under the guidance of Commanding Officer Gp Capt SCK Pallawela, ‘Heel Danaya’ was offered to residing bhikkus of the temple. Seth Pirith was chanted to bless all formation personnel and their families by Maha Sanga. Coinciding to the formation day, celebrations continued with volleyball matches, tug of war and many activities with the participation of formation personnel and civil employees at the newly build ‘Lake Side Cabanas’ at SLAF Base Katunayake and the celebrations concluded with an all ranks lunch.
