'Guwanviru Pranama' Scholarships Awards Ceremony

The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in collaboration with Janashakthi Insurance PLC awarded 100 scholarships to the siblings of War Heroes and for serving personnel under the ‘Guwanviru Pranama’ Scholarships Awards Scheme for the 2nd successive year. The ceremony was held on 31st March 2012 at SLAF Trade Training School Ekala, under the patronage of Chairperson of the SLAF SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama.

This scheme sponsored entirely by the M/C Janashakthi Insurance PLC, intends in supporting the selected Students from Grade 5 till the completion of the GCE A/L continued for the 2nd year with the award of the scholarships. In order to ensure that the students make use of the scholarships they are required to maintain good marks in selected subjects as well as show keen interest and participation in extracurricular activities of the School, which has proved successful.

The ceremony commenced with traditional lighting of oil lamp followed by a two minutes silence in respect of those who made the supreme sacrifice to the motherland.  Squadron Leader Damayanthi, Officer in Charge Seva Vanitha Unit Sri Lanka Air Force TTS Ekala, delivered the welcome address and the Assistant Coordinator SVU, Squadron Leader TPAH Nanayakkara explained the concept of the scholarship programme. Mr. Charith Mahendrarajah, Re-insurance Consultant of Janashakthi Insurance PLC, Members of SVU, Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force Trade Training School Ekala, Group Captain Laksiri Gunawardane, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the base participated at this function. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Squadron Leader Thilakshini Abeynayake, Assistant Secretary Seva Vanitha Unit.
