83 Officers from the 53rd Intake of Officer Cadets’ and 386 Airmen of the 151st Regular Airmen’s Recruit Course passed out from the historical SLAF Academy China Bay during the morning hours of 4th August 2012. Also on this occasion 11 Pilot Officers including one Officer from the 52nd   Intake Officer Cadet Course received their Flying Brevet from the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence  Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa RWP, who  graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal WDRMJ Goonetileke, The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal HD Abeywickrama, the Board of Management of the SLAF, and several top brass of the SL Army, SL Navy, and SL Police of Trincomalee District also attended the event. The Commandant of the SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore SK Pathirana received the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests on the arrival.

The Officer Cadets of the 53rd  Intake have successfully completed  3 years of the most demanding and challenging training whilst the Airmen of  the 151st Regular  Airmen Recruit Course  followed a 24 week Basic  Combat Training. The Parade, which was commanded by the Commanding Officer of Combat Training School Wg Cdr PSN Fernando, was followed by an Aerobatic display of K8 and PT6 aircraft, flown by Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) of No.1 Flying Training Wing Commanded by Sqn Ldr MN De Alwis. This display was then followed by an Unarmed Combat display, a Drill Display, and a Camp Attack Display by personnel of the  No.151st Regular  Airmen Recruit Course.
