Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya 2013

Marking the 2602nd Sambudhathva Jayanthi, SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in collaboration with SLAF Station Colombo, staged ‘Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya 2013’ a Vesak Bhakthi Gee Programme, on the 26th May 2013 at the ‘Rifle Green’ Grounds, SLAF Station Colombo.

The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal HD Abeywickrama, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama, the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo, Air Commodore KFR Fernando, received the Chief Guest and the special invitees.

The proceedings of this event took wing at 1830 hours when the Chief Guest opened the “Dansela” that was set up at the same location offering specially prepared Chickpeas and Coffee to the attendees. ‘Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya 2013’ consisted of 10 famous soul-soothing songs sung by various artistes extolling the life and deeds of the Lord Buddha. The songs were sung by the SLAF Band which also enhanced the attractiveness of the evening with their line-up of classical dance. The special feature of the show was the ballet choreographed performed by the SLAF Band highlighting the "Wessanthara Jathakaya".

A Puppet show comprising a variety of short skits performed by “miniature figures” at the marionette theatre which was especially arranged at the venue continued to entertain the visitors soon after the SLAF Band concluded its line up.

The event was well attended by the SLAF Chief of Staff, the Board of Directors, Officers, Other Ranks and their family members, especially those serving at SLAF Headquarters and SLAF Station Colombo. The event was also open to the general public and those visiting the Colombo Vesak celebrations, especially from outstations, were seen attending and enjoying the show.
