Inter Unit Rugby Victory to SLAF Base Ratmalana

A thrilling encounter between SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Station Colombo terminated the Inter Unit Rugby Championship of the Sri Lanka Air Force after a tough series of intense competition in which 15 teams from different SLAF Bases and Stations scattered around the Island rubbed their shoulders for supremacy. The long fight ended with the crowning of SLAF Base Ratmalana as the Inter Unit Rugby Champions this evening (16th August 2013) at sports grounds of SLAF Base Ratmalana.
 
The opponent team from the SLAF Station Colombo was completely defeated of the first half by 8-0 points which gave expectations of grander things to come to the home crowd. Flight Lieutenant Chathima Dayarathne contributed with a try and Leading Aircraftman Lakshan with a penalty kick respectively. Corporal Samarahewa crossed the opponents’ line and completed a try whilst Leading Aircraftman Lakshan completed a conversion in the second half for SLAF Base Ratmalana.

The latter half of the game mostly belonged to SLAF Station Colombo where they made a valiant effort to regain their defeat by securing 10 points. The game was one of missed opportunities in both penalties and tries for the SLAF Station Colombo. At the end of the full time, SLAF Base Ratmalana defeated the SLAF Station Colombo team by 15-10 points to clinch the Championship.

The Director Operations Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chairman SLAF Rugby Air Commodore WLRP Rodrigo, Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Commodore PDKT Jayasinghe, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo Air Commodore DJC Weerakoon, Officers and other ranks of SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Station Colombo as well as some die-hard fans from other bases/stations were also present to witness the finals.
