SLAF Athletes Return Home to A Rousing Welcome

Sri Lanka Air Force Athletes who represented Sri Lanka as part of the National Team at the 89th Malaysian Open Athletics Championship which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 19th and 20th of October 2013 returned to the Island this evening (21th October 2013) to a rousing welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

Sprinter, Student Officer Chandrika Rasnayake Sri Lanka Air Force stamped her class with a second gold medal, winning the 200 m dash to add to her 400 m gold on Saturday while her male counterpart Ordinary Seaman Kasun Senevirathne Sri Lanka Navy and high Jumper Corporal Manjula Kumara Sri Lanka Air Force won the silver medals respectively.

Rasnayake finished the 400 meters race in 52.86 seconds and set a new game record whilst she clocked a time of 24.10 at the 200 meters race. Manjula Kumara cleared a height of 2.15 meters to win the Silver Medal at the men’s high jump.  Student Officer Chandrika Rasnayake and Corporal Manjula Kumara were the best athletes at the recently concluded National Athletics Championships 2013.
