The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala  promoted AW/3029 Leading Aircraftwoman Nimali Liyanaarachchi, leading SLAF athlete to the rank of Corporal with effect   from 14 July 2015, in recognition of her medal winning performance at the recently concluded 21st Asian Athletic C'ship and Asian Grand Prix in Thailand. Further, a cash award was  also presented to her at a simple ceremony held today (14 July 2015) at the Air Force Headquarters.

Nimali Liyanaarachchi is a proud product of Wawegama Kanishta Vidyalaya.  A Two-time national athletic record holder, she joined SLAF in year 2009.  She bagged 3 gold medals in Asian Grand Prix concluded this month and a bronze at the Asian Athletic C'ship last month.

The Commander congratulated the athlete on her hard work and dedication that too her to success from humble beginnings .The Chairman SLAF Athletics Air Commodore Sudarshana Pathirana, Secretary Athletics Group Captain Deepal Munasinghe ,Secretary AFSC Wing Commander Padman De Costa and other officials of the SLAF athletics and the Air Force Sports Council  were present at this occasion.
