Air Force Creates History At Relay Carnival 2010

Sri Lanka Air Force athletes won both Mens and Women’s championships in the Relay Carnival 2010 held from 14th to 16th May 2010 at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Stadium in Diyagama.
It was a great occasion for mens athletics in the SLAF as they won overall championship at the Relay Carnival for the very first time since the inception of the event . This grand plum picked by the SLAF sprinters had eluded them for many years since the resurgence of athletics in the SLAF. The SLAF women have dominated this premier sprint event in Sri lanka. This is the 6th successive championship win by a SLAF women’s team at a Relay Carnival.
Over 3000 contestant from various athletics clubs of Sri Lanka participated under several age categories.
In the mens events, airmen secured two first places, two second places and two third places in all six mens events. The SLAF scored 44 points to stay ahead of the Army (41) and Navy (35) teams who won the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Air women dominated their events by winning all the 06 events they participated. They led the points table with 60 points ahead of the Army (35 points) and Air Force B (20 points) won the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
SLAF women athletes created new Sri Lanka records in 200m X 4, 800m x 4, 1500m X 4 and Medley relay and one game record in 100m X 4.
