New School For Morawewa
6:07pm on Friday 2nd July 2010
Today the Hon. Secretary Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksha and Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksha opened a school which was built for the children of the Diwulwewa.

Funded and guided by the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit SLAF Detachment Diwulwewa constructed a Primary School for the children of the families who were returning after the ushering in of peace.

This school was built on a request made by the villagers of that area to the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in November 2009.  This was built in addition to two Pre- Schools also built by Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit in this area.

The villages in the Diwulwewa area were forced to leave their homes overnight in the face of terrorist attacks two and a half decades ago.  However, with the dawn of peace they have returned to their village with hopes and now about 500 families of all communities live in these resettled villages.  Many more families are expected to return.

This newly built School was funded by Sri Lankan Philanthropists and was built under the patronage of SLAF SVU and under the supervision of Group Captain Leonard Rodrigo and the service personnel of SLAF Diwulwewa detachment.  Names of the all donors were appearing on “The Tree of Life” in order to honour their invaluable contribution.

Further, stationery, uniforms and gift packs were distributed among all students who participated in the event.

The Chief Guest was received by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke and the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke.
