SLAF conducts 'Thripitakabhivandana' Programmes
9:57pm on Sunday 24th March 2019
The Theravada Tipitakaya, which has been secured and preserved for 2300 years by the Bhikkus, the Buddhists and the kings, was officially announced as a pure heritage of the Sri Lankan nation.  A timely decision taken by the President, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena for the sake of securing the heritage of Buddhism, this is indeed a historic occasion for Sri Lanka.

The United Nations has accepted Sri Lanka as the Centre of Theravada Buddhism and President Maithripala Sirisena proclaiming the Tripitakaya as a national heritage is a proud moment for the entire nation.

The inscription of Tripitaka has been guarded against irrational connotations which influence the meaning of the Buddha’s words and against indiscriminate additions to the philosophy of the Pitaka books and code of discipline that preserved the Dhamma and the Buddhist order. Once the Tripitaka is proclaimed as the national heritage, the rights to publish Tripitaka will be vested in the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.

The Sri Lanka Air Force under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy conducted various programs during the week-long 'Thripitakabhivandana' World Heritage Project that reached its apex yesterday (23 March 2019) at the Sri Dalada Maligawa premises.

The frontage of all SLAF establishments in the island were decorated with the Buddhist flag. On the 22nd the Commander declared open a Buddha Statue at SLAF Detachment, Battaramulla. The event was conducted amidst the Pirith chanting by the Venerbale Maha Sanga led by Thiniyawala Palitha Thero. The event was organized by the Commanding Officer of the Detachment, Wing Commander J Amarasinghe and his staff.

The Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, Members of the Air Force management, Officers and other ranks attended for the event.
