ASW Celebrates its 1st Anniversary

Aero Engineering Support Wing (ASW) of the SLAF celebrated its 1st anniversary on the 14th August 2010 at SLAF Base Rathmalana.

Aero Engineering Support Wing (ASW) was established to provide maintenance support for  operational aircraft and other general engineering support to the SLAF. It was declared opened by the Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal WDRMJ Goonetilake on 14 August 2009 and celebrated its 1st Anniversary on 14 August 2010.

The wing is being commanded by Group Captain Priyantha Ranasinghe and it includes 04 Officers and 70 Airmen in its technical team. During the AOC’s inspection in this year, the Commander appreciated the progress of the ASW and remarked in the visitors’ book as “Through hard work, this Unit has shown remarkable progress in a short period of time”.

In the view of this occasion a “Shramadana” was carried out by the officers and airmen of the at the Mallikarama temple Ratmalana on the same day.

The formation day parade was held on 14th August, 2010  and the Commanding Officer Group Capt Priyantha Ranasinghe inspected the parade. At the parade “The best technician of the year 2010 at ASW” certificate was award to 17205 Sergeant Herath  HMC  (Air Frame Fitter Special) by the Commanding Officer. The event was concluded with an all ranks lunch.
