SLAF Wanni Champs of Inter Unit Cricket

SLAF Special Operations Group  Wanni clinched a 21 run win over SLAF Ampara at the Air Force Inter Unit Cricket finals held yesterday (September 7) at the Rifle Green.

The keenly contested match saw Ampara win the toss and inviting the team from Wanni to bat first. LAC Perera displayed some excellent strokes, notching up a remarkable 57 runs to become the top scorer. AC Madusanka also put up a commendable score of 25 to help the side reach 166 for five wickets in their 20 overs.

Corporal Rajapaksha had the best bowling figures for SLAF Ampara, picking up 2 wickets for 21 runs.

 Ampara  coming into bat struggled against a superb bowling attack form the Wanni bowlers. The Ampara batting line up crumbled under the pace of AC Rukmal and AC Madusanka who picked up 3 wickets each for 29 and 30 runs respectively. LAC Perera too did some damage with his 2 wickets for 16 runs.

Corporal Pushpakumara top scored with 38 in the team’s total of 145 runs for nine.

Director Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Anura Silva was Chief Guest.

The award for Best Bowler went to Aircraftsman M.K.C.Jayarathna of Ampara. Meanwhile the most outstanding cricketer of t he tournament was Leading Aircraftsman K.D.D.S Perera from SLAF Wanni who picked up multiple awards for Best Batsman, Man of the Match and the coveted Best All Rounder.
