Air Force Hands Over Newly Constructed Isolation Unit at IDH to Ministry of Health

The Sri Lanka Air Force commenced construction of a New Isolation Unit consisting of 16 rooms on 18 March 2020. Under the direct supervision of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, a team of 9 Civil Engineering Officers and 250 Airmen led by Senior Staff Officer Civil Engineering, Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe took on the daunting challenge of constructing this new Isolation unit within two weeks (14 Days).

Today (28 March 2020) the completed New Isolation Unit which was completed within just ten (10) days was handed over to the Director General Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe.

The SLAF Engineering Team from the Directorate of Civil Engineering conducted the construction in keeping with international standards where each isolation room is compartmentalised to ensure maximum safety for the medical staff and patients. This facility will fulfill an urgent requirement of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases better known as IDH and enhance their capability to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our motherland.
