46 Civilians Released from SLAF Quarantine Centre at Welisara

46 civilians who were quarantined at the SLAF Quarantine Centre located at the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases at Welisara were released today (05 May 2020). This Quarantine Centre operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force was established on the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias with the renovation of Wards 11 and 12 of the Welisara National Hospital.

The entire operation of this Quarantine Centre was managed by the SLAF Hospital at Station Colombo under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the Hospital, Group Captain (Dr) P A V Padmaperuma. The logistical and maintenance support was provided by the SLAF Trade Training School at Ekala under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the School, Air Commodore Muditha Mahawattage. The SLAF Medical Officer in Charge of the Centre was Flying Officer (Dr) Dilushka Jayakodi together with a medical staff of 4 members, 3 CBRNE personnel and 18 other tradesmen from the SLAF Trade Training School at Ekala. The CBRNE Wing under the leadership of it Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Nilendra Perera played a vital role in the management of the Centre to the expected sanitisation standards.

The civilians quarantined at this centre were from the Grandpass Area, Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo and Minor Staff Workers from the Welisara Hospital who arrived on 20 April 2020.
