COMMANDER VISITS MULLERIYAWA BASE HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION SITE

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana made a visit this morning (14 May 2021) to the construction site which is under way at the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital. The construction which is being done by the Directorate of Civil Engineering of the SLAF was initiated on 23 March 2021 before the present COVID-19 crisis.

The target of the project is to construct a Ward Complex consisting of five (05) 100 x 30 foot Wards. These will also be complete with a 20 x 20 foot Wash Room Complex for each ward. The Commander instructed relevant officials to complete the construction within the shortest possible time in order to be handed over to hospital authorities. With the rapid increase in the number of patients who are diagnosed with COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, this project which commenced before the present spike in cases will boost the highly essential treatment capacity of the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital.

During todays visit the Commander was accompanied by the Director Health Services of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera and the Acting Director Civil Engineering, Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe. The Director of the Colombo East Base Hospital in Mulleriyawa, Dr. Priyantha Karunarathne also join the SLAF contingent during the visit. According to the Hospital Director, these new wards will be utilized to treat patients who are on the recovery path from COVID-19 as Step-Down Wards. These patients will be those with a very low or no symptoms and will be recovering soon.
