New Hope for Pre-School Children of Ramanathanpuram
8:48am on Friday 5th November 2010
Heralding a new era in the now peaceful terrains of Kilinochchi, the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit handed over a newly constructed pre-school at Ramanathanpuram to the general public yesterday morning on 4 November 2010.

SLAF SVU Chairperson Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke, whose dedicated patronage made the project a reality, graced this joyous occasion as Chief Guest. The venture also received the fullest support of Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke.

Overseeing the administration of the project until its day of completion with guidance and supervision was the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Iranamadu Squadron Leader Haley Rupasinghe.

Sixty fortunate pre-school children will now be able to enjoy the facilities of the premises which will truly be a wonderful learning environment for their young minds. SLAF SVU did not leave the toddlers empty handed, remembering to gift them brand new school bags, uniforms and colourful stationery items.

The thoughtful gestures of love and care did not end there, as coinciding with the occasion the SLAF SVU arranged a dental clinic for the pre-school children at the premises.

The opening of the pre-school at Ramanathanpuram was well attended by several high ranking military officials. Present on behalf of the Security Forces Commander was Brigadier Athula Galagamage.  Brigade Commander of the 572 Division Colonel Anura Pannanwala and Commanding Officer of No. 7 Signal Corps Lieutenant Colonel Ranjith Elviitigala also attended the occasion while Commanding Officer of No. 9 Vijayaba Regiment Major Dayawansa was also present.

This SLAF SVU venture was funded wholly by the generous contributions from Sri Lankan philanthropists residing overseas and in the island as well as benefactors from Ceylinco Life Insurance, whose continuous support makes many a SVU project a thriving success.

This is a significant step in the direction of a new era in what was previously an area ravaged by conflict and pain. This venture by the SLAF SVU will ensure that the future of these children will be bright and filled with a sense of new hope for them as well as their families.
