Island wide Projects by SLAF for World Oral Health Day

The Sri Lanka Air Force Dental Directorate initiated a comprehensive programme for the general public to celebrate World Oral Health Day 2010.

Established by FDI (Federation of Dental Internationale) in 1994, the International year of Oral Health, the World Oral Health Day is celebrated annually on 31 October, 2010. The aim behind this initiative is to provide an occasion to promote and provide activities pertaining to oral health at global, regional and national level.

SLAF Dental Directorate did various activities through out the country within last three weeks to mark this occasion at 08 camps, all of which were geared to cater to the general public, especially school children.

Below is a glimpse of the activities that were conducted by Dental Officers and the member of the Dental Directorate of the Sri Lanka Air Force in the respective camps.

The Dental Unit at SLAF Base Katunayake held an educative lecture on oral health in the Astra Hall and a poster competition. Apart from this the personnel of the camp held a free clinic for Pre School children.

A lecture on ‘Oral Health Education’ for Air Force civilians marked World Oral Health Day celebrations at the Dental Centre of SLAF Colombo. In Ratmalana, a free dental clinic for students of the Deaf and Blind School was organized by SLAF personnel of the area.
