Wren Air 525 An innovation of SLAF

A talented and committed team of Airframe Advanced Trainees have constructed a radio controlled Wren Air 525  Model aircraft for their group project under the guidance of the Commanding Officer Group Captain Janaka Amarasinghe.

The structure was designed and constructed with local material by the Trainees while an unserviceable engine was overhauled and restored to serviceable standards by the Aero Engine Advanced Trainees.

The specifications of the Air craft are as follows:

Weight    - 1812g
Wing span - 6.3 ft
Estimated endurance - 30 minutes
 
The trainees were supported with advice by Wing Commander SR Dewamittta, CI TTS, and Wing Commander ADSS Weerasekara the Officer in Charge, Advanced Training. Trade instructors, Warrant Officer LCT Thambugala, Warrant Officer JAJ Kumara and Sergeant Jayathilaka JADAG provided the required assistance.

The air craft made its inaugural flight for 10 minutes successfully on the 26 Oct 10 at the model flying track at TTS and the Event was witnessed by all personnel at TTS, SLAF Ekala.
