SLAF Hingurakgoda Help People Affected by Floods

Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda gave their maximum effort to help people in the area affected by the flash floods which hit the Eastern Province this week.
 
Meals were arranged for the displaced personnel by Base Commander Group Captain Clyde Weerakoon under the instruction of the Commander of the Air Force. The displaced personnel have been moved to safety and provided with temporary shelter at Ananda Balika Vidyalaya and Weliwathuregama Raja Maha Viharaya in Hingurakgoda.
 
The torrential rains which caused flash floods have severely inconvenienced residents in several parts of the Eastern Province, causing damage property and livelihoods.
 
 Meanwhile special operations were launched by the Base to rescue personnel trapped at the 9th Canal point, Chandana Pokuna, Jayanthipura area. The rescue operations were conducted by Air Force Regiment personnel using boats under the directions of the Base Commander.
 
40 individuals were rescued from the heavily flooded area several hours after commencing the rescue mission. A number of senior citizens and pregnant women were also taken to safety in this valiant effort by the SLAF personnel. The rescue operation was spearheaded by Flight Lieutenant Uditha Pathirana and Flying Officer Saman Priyantha assisted by 10 other Air Force members.
