Pakistani Army Chief visits CDS

Pakistan Army Chief of Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani paid a visit to Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke at the SLAF Headquarters today; 20th January, 2011.
 
The Pakistani Army Chief is on a three-day goodwill visit to Sri Lanka arrived in the island yesterday evening with a six member delegation consisting of his spouse, Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani.
   
An exchange of mementos to signify the visit took place between the two commanders.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was commissioned from Pakistan Military Academy in 1971. He is also a graduate of several prestigious defence institutions such as Fort Benning (USA), Command and Staff College Quetta, Command and General Staff College Fort Leavenworth (USA), Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii and National Defence College Islamabad.

General Kayani has with him several years of experience in command, instructional and staff appointments. He has He has commanded an Infantry Battalion, Infantry Brigade, Infantry Division and a Corps. The General has also served on the faculty of School of Infantry and Tactics in Quetta, theOfficer Training School in Mangla, Command and Staff College, Quetta and also at the National Defence University in Islamabad.

Besides being Chief of Staff Corps, the General has also held the coveted appointment of Director General Military Operations and Director General of Inter Services Intelligence.
General Kayani was awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) for his estimable
services rendered to Pakistan.

Being an avid golfer and a keen sportsman, General is also the President of Pakistan Golf Association. The General and his wife have a son and daughter.
