6 Wicket Win for Sri Lanka Air Force

Sri Lanka Air Force clinched a 6 wicket win against Singha Sports Club of Ambalangoda at Rifle Green in Colombo today, 20 February, 2011.
The three day Test encounter which was held from 18th to 20th February saw a splendid performance by SLAF batsman Rajith Rathnayake who scored a century to push the team’s score to a mammoth 318 runs in 66.03 overs in the 1st innings. Ryan Kern chipped in with a splendid 73 runs while teammate Rajiv Gayashan was the third top scorer for team Air Force with 48 runs.
Meanwhile in the bowling attack, Sampath Perera of the Singhe Sports Club took 3 wickets for 42 while fellow spinner Roshan Weerasinghe took 2 wickets for thirty three.
However the lads from Ambalangoda failed to put up an impressive score when they batted, being bowled out for just 94 runs. Dinusha Fernando and Ravin Jayawardena delivered great performances in the bowling department; with Fernando taking 4 wickets for 28 and Jayawardana bagging 3 scalps for just ten runs.
The 2nd innings commenced with SLAF in the lead with 224 runs. Here Sigha put up a commendable batting performance with 270 all out. Lahiru Ashen played well to get 86 runs while Leven Moshing put a splendid 87 runs to his name.
Credit to picking up wickets for Sri Lanka Air Force in the second innings went to Ravin Jayawardena and Angelo Emmanuel who took three wickets each while Fernando chipped in with two wickets.
SLAF needed only 47 runs to follow up on the road to victory but it was challenged with a remarkable bowling spell by Singhe Sports Club’s Umega Chathuranga who sent the first three batsmen of the SLAF team back to the dressing room in quick succession. But thanks to Dinusha Fernando’s 17 runs the Airmen reached the score with wickets to spare in the 18th over with a six wickets win.
