All Night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving at Air Force Headquarters

An all night ‘Pirith Chanting’ ceremony to commemorate Sri Lanka Air Force personnel killed and missing in action during active service and to invoke blessings on their souls, was held on Saturday  night followed by an alms giving for 60 Maha Sangha on Sunday morning (3rd July 2011) at SLAF Headquarters.

Prior to the commencement of Pirith chanting ceremony, the ‘Reliquary’ (Karaduwa) was taken to the SLAF Headquarters in a colorful procession and was placed amid the ‘Pirith Mandapaya’ by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama. This religious event was well attended by the families of those missing and killed in action as well as current SLAF personnel and their families.



Subsequent to the all night Pirith chanting, an alms giving was accorded to the venerable Maha Sangha on Sunday morning, which was followed by the Commander presenting the venerable clergy with ‘Ata Pirikara’. This meritorious endeavor culminated with all those who attended partaking in the alms giving.
During this month the SLAF will be organizing multi religious activities to commemorate and invoke blessing on the war heroes.
