633 Airmen and Airwomen of No 149 Regular Airmen Recruit Course, No 106 Volunteer Airmen Recruit Course, No 23 Regular Airwomen Recruit Course and No 8 Direct Entry Airwomen recruit Courses passed out from prestigious Sri Lanka Air Force Station Diyatalawa at a ceremonial parade held at Bentley Ground today (2nd September 2011).

The parade was reviewed by the Director Ground Operations Air Vice Marshal AM De Zoysa M Sc (NS), M Sc (Def Studies), nswc, cts-ndu, psc. The commanding officer of the station Group Captain Janaka Amarasinghe RSP, MSc (Def Studies), psc was also present.

This batch of recruits have been at Sri Lanka Air Force Diyatalawa for nearly eighteen (18) weeks following their basic ground combat training.

These 18 weeks have been quite hard of them. It was intended to be so. They had to work in classroom and out in the field from sunrise to sunset and often at might with great demands being made both on mind and body all with just basic creature comforts. The recruits you see in the photographs have been taught it all, having endured the extreme pressure and hardships of the toughening process irrespective of gender. To achieve the aim of the course they have been trained in Drill, Weapon training, Field craft, Tactics, Map reading, Air Force law, Air Force organization and administration. They have also been given the required knowledge on field first aid and human rights as well,

Today we are sure that they are very happy, not because this phase of training is over, but rather because the training and experience gained and the confidence they have acquired would help them to be disciplined service men and women.

With this fully fledged training course, they are now surely confident to give their valuable service for the motherland.
