SLAF In To Clifford Cup Semi Finals

Sri Lanka Air Force ruggerites qualified to play in the Clifford Cup Knockout Rugby Tournament defeating CR & FC 27- 25 points today (04th September 2011) at the Royal Ground Complex.

SLAF defeated CR after 21 years bringing them a step closer to grab the Clifford Cup.
Airman took charge from the very first minute to the end the first half with a score of 13-06. The SLAF 13 points consisted of two tries by Shenal Dias and Sasanka Ariyaratna whilst Radhika Hettiarachchi scored the penalty. Mohamed Sarif scored two penalties for CR reduced the gap to 7 points.

CR bounced back in the second half taking control of the game scoring 19 points with two goals by Dushan Lewke and Sharo Fernando with a try by Radeesha Seneviratna against the 07 points (goal) scored by airman Gayan Iddamalgoda threatening the SLAF chances of making it to a semi finals.

At that point of the game, CR was in a commanding position leading game by 25 – 20 points. However refusing to be dominated by CR, the airmen fought valiantly inspiring Radhika Hettiarachchi to score a last minute goal enabling the SLAF to hold on to their chances of reaching the next stage.
