Fire Evacuation Drill At Sri Lanka Insurance Building
8:29am on Saturday 22nd October 2011
Today (21st October 2011) Sri Lanka Air Force Fire fighters carried out a fire evacuation drill at the Sri Lanka Insurance building located down Vauxhall Street.

This exercise was conducted to introduce the occupants of the building to the processes to be adopted in the event of a fire and to familiarize Firefighters with the Insurance Corporation building whilst honing their skills.

A Sri Lanka Army rescue team and the Colombo fire unit rushed to the scene and evacuated personnel out of the building. With arrival of SLAF fire fighters, personnel inside the building were evacuated using three processes depending on the situation and the height.

The personnel in the lower floors were afforded a smooth landing by use of the ‘jumping sheet’ (an inflated landing pad) which was placed on the ground. Whilst the Skylift Bronco (Fire vehicle Aerial Ladder system) came into action with its extended arm to reach the top floors to evacuate people, the safety rope rescue system were also used to evacuate personnel (including simulated injured personnel) from the top floors of the building.

The Chief Fire Officer Group Captain Chinthaka Dias and Officer in Charge of the SLAF Fire fighters Squadron Leader Chamil Hettiarachchi guided the SLAF fire fighters to perform the evacuation drill smoothly.
