Annual Get-together and Children’s Party 2011 at SLAF Mirigama

It appeared that the weather gods purposely released the sun on 3rd morning to shine above the Kitulgala Mountain after a long period of heavy showers. A thick blanket of heavy mist slowly disappeared creating a soothing weather condition, ideal for the kids to enjoy with their parents and friends at SLAF Mirigama. The Children’s party and the Annual Get together of SLAF Mirigama provided a fine opportunity for service personnel and civilians to enjoy a day of fun and merriment with their loved ones.
Former Commanding Officer Group Captain Janaka Karunaratna graced the event as the Chief Guest. The Ceremony commenced with the lighting of traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest, Unit Commanding Officer, former Officer Commanding Logistics, Station Warrant Officer and a few other guests.
The event commenced in the morning with simple and pleasurable fun games for the children of all ages. The talent show of the air dogs presented by the Sri Lanka Air Dog Section amused the kids and was admired by the elders. The children’s play area that housed rabbits, sheep, ponies, porcupines, ducks and ducklings added an unforgettable new experience to the day while the jumbo humbly carried many children on its back and allowed the fathers to bravely pass under its belly, some with little ones held close to their hearts. The children’s party celebrations drew to a close with the much anticipated arrival of Santa Clause who distributed presents to the children adding colour to the morning.
The evening was filled with some spectacular activities for the participants both young and old, with a whole range, drama, dance and colorful fireworks. Musical accompaniment was by the SLAF Beat Group which brought rich entertainment to the event with their performance. They were joined by the charming dances of the SLAF dance troupe which created a blissful and alluring night.
