New Responsibilities
The SLAF has been assigned additional responsibilities to assist the police in ensuring the protection of the people, and the preservation of Law and Order.
- All SLAF Air Assets are on standby for Recce, survey, medevac and for troop transport.
- Ground security personnel deployed to a number of public facilities and Vulnerable Areas to ensure security.
- Static Guards and Mobile Patrols
- Airport Security has been placed under the purview of the SLAF, at both international airports, at Katunayake and Mattala.
- Enhanced Security measures have been put in place to ensure no explosive devices being carried into the airport or on board. These include Road blocks, Vehicle Checks, Personnel Searches, Baggage Checks.
- Emergency Hotline 116 for passengers, with respect to security measures.
- Security of Embassies, Religious Establishments, Hospitals and Hotels
Embassies: India and official residence of Ambassador, South Africa, South Korea, Netherlands, Norway, the Vatican, Brazil
Shangrila, The Kingsbury, Taj Samudra, Cinnamon Lakeside, Cinnamon Grand and Cinnamon Red
Infant Jesus Church Slave Island, Galle Face Hotel, Nippon Hotel and Asiri and Durdens Hospitals.

- Detections made by the SLAF
An improvised explosive device was detected at BIA at approximately 2230 hrs and was disposed in a controlled explosion on site by SLAF EOD personnel
During a Cordon and Search carried out by SLAF CTS Dla in the area of Kahagolla, 152 rounds of live T56 ammunitions and 8 empty cases of 9mm Pistol were found. 302 AF personnel including 11 Officers were employed on this search and the suspects were arrested by the Police.
