PRESIDENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SRI LANKA, COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES AND MINISTER OF DEFENCE
I am pleased to issue this message on the 66th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The nation and the people can be extremely happy about the way in which the Sri Lanka Air Force has grown over the years and its invaluable services during the time of conflict and peace.
As the Commander-in-chief, I take this opportunity to convey my warm compliments to the Commander of the Air Force, all Officers, Other Ranks and the Civilian Staff of the SLAF for their unwavering commitment to duty and the tenacity to persevere through challenges over the years. Undoubtedly, it is the camaraderie that pervades this prestigious organisation and the collective effort of all Air Force personnel, is the foundation of its great success.
The Sri Lanka Air Force carries out its role successfully as the guardian of our skies and the protector of country's sovereignty and national interests. Its commitment and dedication to achieve the glorious victory over the secessionists that tarnished the image of our Motherland for three decades is highly commendable. I strongly believe it is our duty to honour the servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and those who were wounded in battle in pursuit of a better future for the people of our nation.
I am confident that the Air Force will continue to project the peaceful image of the country in the regional and global context with active involvement in multiple United Nations Peacekeeping Operations and in national, regional and global humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
While expressing my gratitude to the Commander of the Air Force, all Officers, Other Ranks, Civilian Staff and their families on this momentous day, I extend my best wishes to the Sri Lanka Air Force for grand anniversary celebrations.
