A New Accommodation Building for Nursing Staff at IDH

With the present COVID-19 Pandemic Situation in the country, there is an increasing need for accommodation facilities for staff working at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases better known as IDH.

On the directives of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, the Directorate of Civil Engineering has commenced construction on a Nurses Quarters Building together with the Sir Lanka Ports Authority. The SLAF Engineering Team was led by Wing Commander KMP Hewapathirana and Flight Lieutenant IVC Buddika together with 60 airmen from the Civil Engineering Wing at Katunayake.

 The building is a pre-fabricated structure consisting of 16 rooms with attached bath rooms. The foundation, tilled flooring and the finishing of this building was completed by the SLAF while the pre-fabricated structure was provided by the Ports Authority. The new building will provide accommodation for 30 nursing staff.

The Director Civil Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Ruchira Samarasinghe also attended for the handing over which was done this morning (8 May 2020).
