New Office Complex for No 5 Fighter Squadron Declared Open by the Commander

The New Office Complex of the No 5 Fighter Squadron was declared open by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias this morning (23 July 2020) at SLAF Base Katunayake.

The Squadron boasts of a glamorous history from 1991 to date, rendering 29 years of dedicated service to the nation in times of need and during peace. No 5 Fighter Squadron continues to remain as the cradle of SLAF Fighter Pilots and plays the role as Sri Lanka’s frontline air defence squadron.

The construction of the office complex was carried out by the Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake under the supervision of the Directorate of Civil Engineering, in coordination with the Base Commander at SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha and the Commanding Officer of No 5 Fighter Squadron, Wing Commander Roshan Perera. This building will enable the Squadron to carry out its administrative functions with higher efficiency as well as to cater for demanding training in a sound and methodical manner. This new building has also been named as the “Home of Drongos”.

Today’s opening was attended by the Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Commanding Officers of Lodger Formations within SLAF Base Katunayake, Officers and other ranks of the No 5 Fighter Squadron.
