SLAF ACADEMY CHINA BAY APPOINTS NEW OFFICER CADETS' GOVERNMENT FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE TIME

As a practice in the training subculture, SLAF Academy, China Bay, marked the establishment of the Officer Cadets' Government in a ceremonial procession at the Academy Parade Square on 20 September 2024.

The Officer Cadets' Government appointments were introduced by this Academy with the aim of forming a firm link between officer instructors, other rank instructors and Officer Cadets. This process aids in carrying out responsibilities and assigned tasks to maintain high standards of discipline and imbue leadership qualities within the young officer trainees who will potentially be commissioned as they successfully complete their cadetship.

The appointment holders are responsible for maintaining discipline among Senior and Junior Officer Cadets, irrespective of gender differences and shall work hand in hand with the training contingent of the Academy. Thus, they will administer and monitor the daily activities of the Officer Cadets, including morning PT, billet inspections, daily muster, evening lecture studies, as well as attendance in recreational activities.

The selection procedure for the Officer Cadets' Government is a long and meticulous process. It involves assessing the performances of all Officer Cadets, including the Officer Cadets of Flying Training Wing and Ground Training Wing, based on military excellence, academic achievements, and perfection in attendance, participation in both co- and extra-curricular activities, as well as good conduct. The selection process was carried out by a board appointed by the Commandant, which comprises the Commanding Officer of No. 1 Flying Training Wing, Group Captain RMCJK Ratnayake, the Commanding Officer Ground Training Wing, Group Captain RND Senadheera and Registrar SLAF Academy China Bay, Wing Commander CN Jayasooriya.

The Acting Commandant SLAF Academy China Bay, Group Captain KADAC Kuruwita, graced the event as the Chief Guest and while congratulating the appointment holders, emphasized how important it is to take up leadership in the face of challenges and their role in maintaining discipline in the Academy.

During the parade, the Acting Commandant presented an appreciation plaque to Lady Officer Cadet Savindi JMS in recognition of her outstanding achievements at the CISM World Military Cadet Games, where she won two Bronze medals.

All Officers, other rankers and civilian members of the Academy attended the occasion.
