GROUND TRAINING WING CELEBRATES 33RD ANNIVERSARY AT SLAF ACADEMY CHINA BAY

The Ground Training Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay proudly celebrated 33rd Anniversay on 13 January 2026.

The Training Wing was initially established as the Combat Training School on 13 January 1993 and was subsequently redesignated as the Ground Training Wing on 15 July 2013, in line with its expanding training role within the Sri Lanka Air Force.

To date, the Ground Training Wing has been commanded by 30 Commanding Officers and is presently commanded by Group Captain CP Hettiarachchi. Over the years, the Wing has played a vital role in shaping SLAF personnel by successfully conducting a wide range of training programmes, including the Officers’ Academic Module, Officer Cadets Service Administrative Phase, Officer Cadets Branch Courses, Recruit Courses, Operations Air Advanced Courses, Provost Trade Training Courses and Basic Gunner Courses.

In celebration of the anniversary, the customary Working Parade was held with the participation of all Officers, Instructors, and Trainees of the Wing, reflecting discipline, teamwork, and professional excellence.

Coinciding with the Formation Day celebrations, the Ground Training Wing also organized a community service project by conducting a Cleaning Programme within the Wing premises. The initiative saw the active participation of Officers, Instructors, and Trainees, highlighting the Wing’s commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
