‘ගුවන් හමුදා පාපැදි සවාරිය’ or the Air Force Annual Cycling Tour is a professional Road Cycling tour organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force in partnership with the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka’s official governing body for cycling.
Currently it consists of two events or races, namely the Men’s Race and the Women’s Race.
Men’s Race is the flagship event of the tour and it is conducted as a Multi Stage Cycling tour. The Men’s Race was inaugurated in 1999 and since then it has been held for every year except in 2008 where the event was cancelled due to security reasons.
Women’s Race was started in year 2012 and since then it has been held every year. Women’s Race is held as a single day race.
This race is open to Elite level cyclists from Sri Lanka and every year approximately 200 cyclists take part. Since it’s inception it has become the most regularly held cycling event as same is conducted on the first week of March every year in combination with the Sri Lanka Air Force’s anniversary which falls on the 2nd of March. Year 2024 marks the 25th Anniversary for this event.
The event is held from the funds made available through sponsorships from our partners. The Air Force Annual Cycling Tour is an ideal platform for the cooperate companies to market their brands and products. The event also is telecasted live on National TV through our media partners and also webcasted in parallel on Facebook and Youtube. It also attracts a large viewership in the cycling fraternity living in Sri Lanka as well as expatriate Sri Lankan communities abroad.
The Air Force Annual Cycling Tour is organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force’s Cycling Club the “SLAF Cycling”.
This tour is a regular feature in the Sri Lanka’s annual cycling calendar published by the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka and is rated as the most prestigious/recognized Road Cycling event in the country.
