An officer in the Electronics and Telecommunication stream will get the responsibility of managing a wide range of communication and navigation equipment. These include airborne as well as ground-based equipment. These officers will be exposed to state-of-the-art technology in the communications field during their carrier. Installation of island wide communications network, planning battle field communications, managing electronics workshops, maintenance of avionics equipment at operational Flying Squadrons.
After initial Basic Combat Training, Officer Cadets selected for the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Branch will have to under go Basic Administration and specialized branch training at the SLAF Academy in China Bay before passing out as a Commissioned Officer in the rank of Pilot Officer. This Branch also recruits Officers through Direct Entry applications as well as through the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
An Officer of the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Branch will have the rare opportunity of serving in a operational Flying Squadron of the SLAF where they will gain hands on experience on aircraft maintenance in the Avionics field. The future of an Officer is filled with opportunities to go overseas to be trained on electronics and telecommunication engineering matters in general and on aircraft specific matters as well.
GCE (O/L) IN ONE SITTING
Minimum of six Credit (C) passes at the GCE (O/L) examination with compulsory Credit (C) passes for English language, Science, Mathematics and a Simple (S) pass or above for Sinhala / Tamil language in one sitting.
GCE (A/L) IN ONE SITTING
Two Credit (C) passes and one Simple (S) passes in three subjects at the GCE (A/L) examination in Physical Science (Combined Maths, Physics and Chemistry) Streams in one sitting. Not combined to General English for A/L results.
