The Directorate of Information Technology (Dte of IT) is established in the SLAF as an independent Directorate. The primary role of the Directorate is to design, develop and maintain all Information Technology (IT) Systems and equipment including software systems, networks, hardware, data bases, multimedia designing and cyber security in order to achieve organizational objectives.

SLAF Cyber Operations Centre (SLAF COC), the most effective Security Operations Centre in Sri Lanka was first established in the year 2011 at Air Force Headquarters to protect SLAF digital systems including web sites from cyber threats. Today, the Centre has further expanded and is armed with a highly skillful workforce and cutting edge technologies and tools. In 2018, this Centre evolved to be elevated up to ministry level and was re-designated as the Ministry of Defence - Cyber Operation Center (MOD COC). An Emergency Cyber Coordinating Unit was established within this Centre in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks.

Specialized areas

• Design, development and maintenance of SLAF IT Systems
• Protect SLAF IT systems and IT infrastructure from cyber incidents and attacks
• Protect digital assets of the SLAF
• Enhance IT competency level of the SLAF personnel
• Procure, installation and maintenance of IT assets
• Design, installation and maintenance of the SLAF data network
• Carryout research on IT related new technologies and adopt relevant technologies into the SLAF

BASIC EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS – OFFICER CADET (MALE/FEMALE)

• A Minimum of six Credit (C) passes at the GCE (O/L) examination with compulsory Credit (C) passes for English language, Science, Mathematics and a Simple (S) pass and above for Sinhala / Tamil language in one sitting (additional and optional subjects are not considered)

• Simple (S) passes in three subjects at the GCE (A/L) examination in Technology Stream with Information and Communication Technology or Physical Science Stream in one sitting.

BASIC EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS - DIRECT ENTRY APPLICANTS

• Minimum of six Credit (C) passes at the GCE (O/L) examination with compulsory Credit (C) passes for English language, Science, Mathematics and a Simple (S) pass and above for Sinhala / Tamil language in one sitting (additional and optional subjects are not considered).

• Minimum of three simple (S) passes at the GCE (A/L) examination and passes may be from any stream in one sitting.
• Pearson / Edexcel / International Ordinary / Advance Level, GCSE, GCE and Cambridge exam qualification may be considered subjected to a confirmation obtained from the Department of Examination, Sri Lanka to effect that it is equivalent to above basic educational qualifications.

ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR DIRECT ENTRY APPLICANTS

NETWORK ENGINEER - MALE / FEMALE (REGULAR / VOLUNTEER)

Bachelors Engineering Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Science with Computer Science, IT or Electronics as a main subject or Higher National Diploma in IT (HNDIT) or Diploma in IT or Associate member of IESL or Associate Member of British Computer Society or Associate Member of Australian Computer Society or Equivalent specialization knowledge. Experience in data communication / data networks or server systems will be an advantage.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER – MALE / FEMALE (REGULAR / VOLUNTEER)

Bachelors Engineering Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Science with Computer Science, IT or Electronics as a main subject or Higher National Diploma in IT (HNDIT) or Diploma in IT or Associate member of IESL or Associate Member of British Computer Society or Associate Member of Australian Computer Society or Equivalent specialization knowledge. Experience in Strong development skills and proficiency in programming language, having experience in Java, C# or C/C++, enterprise technologies (such as Web services, APIs, XML, JSON, SSO, JMS), experience in cloud technologies and container technologies (such as AWS, Azure and Docker), microservices, enterprise integration and API management will be an added advantage.

INFORMATION/CYBER SECURITY SPECIALIST - MALE / FEMALE (REGULAR / VOLUNTEER)

Bachelors Engineering Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Science with Computer Science, IT or Electronics as a main subject or Higher National Diploma in IT (HNDIT) or Diploma in IT or Associate member of IESL or Associate Member of British Computer Society or Associate Member of Australian Computer Society or Equivalent specialization qualification. Experience in Information / Cyber Security will be an advantage.

DATABASE ENGINEER – MALE / FEMALE (REGULAR / VOLUNTEER)

Bachelors Engineering Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, IT or Electronics related stream or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Science with Computer Science, IT or Electronics as a main subject or Higher National Diploma in IT (HNDIT) or Diploma in IT or Associate member of IESL or Associate Member of British Computer Society or Associate Member of Australian Computer Society or Equivalent specialization knowledge. Experience in database technologies and architecture, structured query language and data security will be an advantage.
