“Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya” will be conducted for the 18th consecutive year and concur with the 66th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. This cycle race is exclusively sponsored by Abans Group of Companies. The objective of the race is to offer an opportunity to the cycling fraternity to take part in a competitive event and to promote the sport in Sri Lanka. This race is ranked at National level and conducted under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. Over one hundred fifty Sri Lankan ranking/other riders registered with the CFSL are expected to compete in this race.

The duration of the race will be 3 days. It will start on 03 March 2017 from Colombo in front of AFHQ, passing through Puttalam , Vavuniya and finish in Duraiappah Ground in Jaffna. It will cover a distance of 415.2 Km. First day (03 March2017) the men's race commences on from Colombo will finish at Puttalam (128.2 Km). On the second day (04 March2017) the race will start at Puttalam and finish at Vavuniya (138.5 Km). On the Final day (03 March2017) the race will start at Vauniya to finish at Urban Council Ground, Jaffna (148.5 Km). In addition to the men’s race a women’s race is scheduled to be commenced on 03 March 2017 from in front of Abans showroom Kilinochchi to finish in Duraiappah Ground, Jaffna (69 Km).

In keeping with the tradition of “Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya”, for the year 2017 Race too, the organizers plan to give away handsome cash awards for Individual and Group winners amounting to more than Rupees 1.4 Million.
