SLAF History : Silver Jubilee
On 2nd March 1976 the Air Force celebrated its Silver Jubilee on a grand scale with celebrations in all formations and the first ever exhibition on the grounds adjacent to Air Force Headquarters. The exhibition displayed aircraft, ordnance and other interesting items and was an unprecedented success.

Pedestrians on D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha received the shock of their life, when a Russian built KA 26 helicopter crash landed on the street! (Deliberately, of course!) It was an exhibit and was towed to the site after removing its rotor blades. A spectacle indeed!

On 31st March 1976 the Air Force was honoured with the award of the President's Colour at a colourful ceremony held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. Squadron Leader A. Walter Fernando led the colour parade.
