SLAF emerged victorious at the Defence Services Beach Volleyball Championship 2012

The Sri Lanka Air Force men’s
and women’s Beach volleyball teams won the Defence Services Beach
Volleyball Championship 2012 which was worked off for three days at the
Nogombo Beach Court Complex from 30 July to 01 August
2012.
In the women’s final, SLAF pair Cpl Gunawardena KKGL and LAC Prasadini JHD beat Navy pair W/OD Gunasinghe BGS and W/OD Sanjeewani YGN 21-10 and 21-08. In the men’s final, SLAF pair Sgt Kumara MLAP and Cpl Yapa YHSM beat the Asian Silver medalists and national champions OD Mahesh Perera and OD Wasantha Ratnapala in a keenly contested match. The final score read 20-22, 21-13 and 16-14 in favour of the SLAF pair.
In line with the international rules, two teams apiece from the SLA, SLAF and SLN participated in both men’s and women’s categories and the tournament was conducted according to double elimination system.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General EP De Z Abeysekera USP graced the event as the Chief Guest.
