The Ray award 2015, organized by the Ray
Wijewardene Charitable Trust, was held on 24 August 15 at the Balmoral,
Kingsbury.
This is organized in order to honour one of the greatest catalysts and inventors Sri Lanka had ever seen, Deshamanya Vidya Jyothi Dr Philip Revatha "Ray" Wijewardene. The Ray Wijewardene Charitable Trust (RWCT) was established in early 2011 to promote Dr. Ray Wijewardene’s vision and ideas in Sri Lanka and to help upcoming creators.
Wing Commander Chandima Alwis of Sri Lanka Air Force was a finalist in this year's ceremony for his invention of a Refrigerator door Cool Retainer which is a simple and user friendly solution to stop energy wastage from having the refrigerator door open for a long period of time. In order to reduce the energy wastage, he invented thick plastic screens that could cover the shelves of the fridge so that the inside of the fridge was not exposed to the atmosphere even when the door was open.
Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke and the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala also witnessed the ceremony.
