8:52am on Thursday 14th September 2017
The day's proceedings kicked off for the Command Post Exercise (CPX) with a practical session where the participants demonstrated how they would utilize their air assets for disaster relief operations in a simulated calamitous situation.

Thereafter, the participants of the CPX were shuttled to SLAF Base Katunayake to have a look at the C-130J aircraft of the USAF, C-130H and AN-32 aircraft of the SLAF. All the participants got to experience, in firsthand, of the actual loading, unloading and packing procedures carried out by the USAF at the Aeronautical Engineering Wing (AEW) hangar. The Group photograph sessions for CPX participants, aircrews and technical crews of both SLAF and the USAF followed at the end of the air cargo handling demonstration.

The sessions continued for the CPX participants with a basic parachute-rigging demo, which was presented by the members of the SLAF Parachute School Ampara. In addition during the latter half of the day, members of the DMC, Red Cross and the USAF Medical Team conducted lectures on plan of action for HADR operations.

In parallel to the above, the Medical SMEE continued its morning sessions at Jetwing Blue, Negombo. This consisted of lectures on triage considerations in MASCAL, overview on patient handling/ transport technics, patient movement from point of injury to definitive care, HADR response and USAF Expeditionary Medical Support Health Response Team.

After-lunch the Medical SMEE was shifted to SLAF Hospital at SLAF Base Katunayake, in which the discussions continued on Triage/patient assessment, Basic Spinal Board Precautions, Bleeding Control/Splinting and Litter & Non-Litter Carry.

Finally, the Flying Training Exercise (FTX) was to have its first outing as SLAF Para Troopers were scheduled to jump from a USAF C-130 over SLAF Station Ampara. However, the weather gods had other ideas. This planned exercise had to be postponed due to unfavorable weather in and around the airfield at Ampara.
