Commander’s Inspection of SLAF Base Vavuniya

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias conducted the Commander's Inspection of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Vavuniya today (7 June 2019). Prior to the inspection proper, the Commander reviewed the Commander's Inspection Parade commanded by the Base Commander of SLAF Base Vavuniya, Air Commodore LH Sumanaweera.

The Commander awarded Commendations to Sergeant Rathnayake RMSB (Accounts Assistant), Sergeant Munasinghe SC (Air Radio Technician), Mr. JT Bandara (Civilian Attendant), Mr. AG Sumathipala (Civilian) and Mr. TM Wijewardana (Civilian) in recognition of their outstanding meritorious services towards the activities of the Station and the entire Air Force.

During the course of the inspection the Commander visited all areas of the Base including No. 2 Air Defence Radar Squadron, No. 2 Mechanical Transport Repair and Overhaul Wing, No. 111 UAV Squadron and No. 23 Regiment Wing. The Commander also visited the SLAF Surface Mining (Quarry) Project at Mamaduwa.

The Commander also joined the customary all ranks lunch at the Airmen's Mess with a cross section of Officers, Airmen, Airwomen and Civilian Staff.

Concluding the Commander's Inspection, the Commander addressed all Officers, Other Ranks including the civilian personnel as well. During his address he acknowledged that this inspection was his first Commander’s Inspection after assuming office. The Commander also stated that he was privileged to have had the opportunity to serve at the Vavuniya Base as an Operational Helicopter Pilot. He also thanked the members of the Base for the many developments which were done in order to improve the standards. He reminded that due to the security situation in the country service men and women have had to go the extra mile and further emphasized on the fact that all personnel need to maintain very high levels of discipline whilst performing duties.
