SLAF Joins Hands with the “Peramaga” Initiative to Construct New Triage Centre for Teaching Hospital Ragama

On the directives of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, the construction of a New Triage Centre adjoining the Colombo North Teaching Hospital at Ragama commenced on the 14th of May 2020. This is the second such Triage Centre which has been established to strengthen the health care facilities in Sri Lanka for the fight against COVID-19.

An SLAF Engineering Team of 35 airmen from the Civil Engineering Wing at Katunayake led by Flight Lieutenant IVC Buddhika were deployed to complete the project within the shortest possible time. The project was completed within 21 days under the supervision of the Directorate of Civil Engineering.

The construction of the new Triage Centre was funded by the Esufally Family and Hemas Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. This was the second such project completed under the “Peramaga” initiative which aims at enhancing your safety and keeping the nation safe from COVID-19.

The Centre was declared open today (9 June 2020) by Mr. Murtaza Esufally, Mrs. Avanti Esufally, the Director General to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anil Jasinghe and the Director Civil Engineering of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Ruchira Samarasinghe. The simple opening ceremony was attended by Former Sri Lankan Cricket Captain, Mahela Jayawardena as well.
 
Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Specialist, Dr. Sanjay Perera coordinated the process with Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe coordinating the engineering effort for the SLAF. The two centers constructed by SLAF Engineering Teams at Ragama and Panadura make up the first phase of the “Peramaga” Initiative to help hospitals mitigate the risk of virus transmission by using outdoor screening centers and natural ventilation strategies which was proposed by Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Changa Kurukularatne.
