HANDING OVER CEREMONY OF TWO DRONES TO SLAF BY GOVERNOR OF WESTERN PROVINCE

The Handing Over Ceremony of two Drone Cameras was conducted yesterday (18 February 2021) at SLAF Station Colombo. The event was held under the auspices of the Western Province Governor, Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana participated to accept the drones on behalf of the Sri Lanka Air Force. In addition, Chief Secretary Western Province, Mrs. Jayanthi Wijethunga, Secretary to the Governor, Mr. P Somasiri, Executive Director of Retail IT Pvt Limited, Mr. Chadu Sumathipala, Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo, representatives from Western Provincial Council, Officers and Airmen attended to witness the occasion.

Supporting the national effort in accomplishing control and preventive activities related to Dengue, the SLAF and the Western Provincial Council jointly carried out 26 Drone missions and logged 21 hours 50 minutes to date, utilizing SLAF Drones over various dengue prone areas in the Western Province.

Based on the remarkable results of the missions, Western Provincial Council has acquired two Drones which will be operated by the SLAF to expand the effort while strengthening the collaboration under the guidance of the Governor of Western Province.

Two Drones, namely DJI M300 RTK surveillance drone and DJI AGRS MG -1 liquid spraying drone were inducted to the SLAF Drone Inventory, paving the way to utilize them productively not only for Dengue Prevention but also on National Security commitments as well.

To mark the event, a mutual agreement was signed by the Governor, Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Executive Director of Retail IT Pvt Limited.
