Women's Wing
HISTORY

  •   Established on 21st November 1987 and SLAF Women’s Wing   (Regular and Regular Reserve) Regulations published in  Gazette number 539/15 Dated 07th January 1989.

  •    Women’s Wing Regulation had been made under section 155 of the Air  Force Act.

  •    First batch of Lady Officers had joined SLAF on 1985.

  •    First batch of Airwomen had joined SLAF on 10th January 1983.

  •    Regular Lady Officers enlisted via Cadet entry or KDU entry, who do not belong to professional categories  (medical, legal etc.)  are eligible to become the members of the SLAF Women’s Wing.

PREVIOUS DISCHARGE PROCEDURE

Both Lady Officers and Airwomen are eligible to gratuity after 10 years of reckonable service and to a pension after 15 years of service as per AF P&G code. (Gazette Extraordinary No.539/15 of 7th January 1989)

Both Lady Officers and Airwomen shall retire on completion of age of forty-five (45) or on completion of a maximum period of 20 years of service, whichever occurs earlier.

Both Lady Officers and Airwomen may be transferred to the Regular Air Force Reserve, until completion of 50 years or for shorter periods as the Commander thinks fit. 

PRESENT DISCHARGE PROCEDURE

LADY OFFICERS
Eligible to gratuity after 10 years of reckonable service and to a pension after 15 years of service as per AF P&G code. (Gazette Extraordinary No.539/15 of 7th January 1989)

Further, may opt to serve until 20 years of service or until completion of 55 years of age as per the amendment made via the Gazette Extraordinary No.2423/36 of 15th February 2025.

May transfer to the Regular Air Force Reserve until completion of 60 years of age.

AIRWOMEN
Eligible to gratuity after 10 years of reckonable service and to a pension after 15 years of service as per AF P&G code. (Gazette Extraordinary No.539/15 of January 7, 1989)

Further, may opt to serve until 22 years of service as per the amendment made via the Gazette Extraordinary No.2423/36 of 15th February 2025, or until completion of 45 years of age.

May transfer to the Regular Air Force Reserve until completion of 50 years of age.

Initial engagement of regular Airwomen is 08 years and they have to apply for 04 years extension of service to complete 12 years of service.  Afterwards, they may apply for 03 years (to complete 15 years of service) or 05 years or 10 years slabs to complete 22 years of service.
