SLAF CLAIMS DOUBLE VICTORY AT THE 13TH DEFENCE SERVICES TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP 2025
The 13th Defence Services Triathlon Championship 2024/2025 was successfully held today (06 March 2025) at the scenic Thissa Wewa in Anuradhapura. The event, which showcased the combined strengths of the armed services in a grueling test of endurance and skill, culminated in an awards ceremony held at the same venue.
The championship comprised three demanding events: a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer cycle and a 5-kilometer run, designed to test the athletes’ versatility and physical prowess. The occasion was honored by the presence of the Director General of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Air Vice Marshal DBV Weerasinghe who graced the event as the Chief Guest.
In a significant milestone, the SLAF Aquatics Triathlon Men’s Team emerged as the Overall Champions for the first time. Flying Officer Isiwaruna De Silva clinched the Silver medal in the men's category, while Leading Aircraftman Silva WHR secured the Bronze medal, marking a breakthrough performance for the team.
The Women’s competition saw the SLAF Aquatics Triathlon Women’s Team uphold their tradition of excellence by retaining the Overall Championship title. Leading Aircraftwoman Dassanayake LKGKK claimed the Gold medal, with Leading Aircraftwoman Rathnathilake RASN earning the Silver medal, further confirming their status as one of the most consistent and formidable teams in the series.
The event was also attended by notable dignitaries including the Chairman of SLAF Aquatics, Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva, Commander of the 212 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier BAMP Balasuriya and Base Commander of SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Air Commodore Poojana Gunatilake, along with senior officers from the Tri-Services.
