AIR VICE MARSHAL UDULA WIJESINGHE HONOURS WITH THE CALCUTTA MEDAL AT THE SOUTH WEST MONSOON GOLF MEET 2023

Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe, the Director General Construction Engineering in the SLAF, performed the excellence in his golfing prowess in the South West Monsoon Meet-2023, hosted at the Royal Colombo Golf Club course. In recognition of his outstanding skills on the greens, Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe was conferred with the Calcutta Medal, during the tournament.

The Calcutta Medal was presented to Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe by Dr. Rohitha Silva, the Captain of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, further adding to the prestige of the occasion. A total of 144 enthusiastic golfers, hailing from both local and foreign origins, actively participated in this highly competitive tournament.

The history of the Calcutta Medal dates back to 1888 when the Colombo Golf Club was just nine years old. It was originally presented by the Calcutta Golf Club. The first Calcutta Medal competition took place that year when the Colombo Golf Club was situated at its original location on Galle Face Green.
