Excellence Award 2010

In the view of appreciating and motivating the meritorious work carried out by the men and women of the SLAF, Excellence Award 2010 was held at the ‘Astra Cinema’ of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake yesterday (20th July 2011).
The traditional lighting of the oil lamp and the observance of two minutes silence gave the start to the event. The event included many cultural activities performed by the SLAF band and dancing group. The Chairman of organizing Committee Air Commodore Ajantha Silva welcomed the Commander and other guests. Following the awarding of the trophies, the Commander of the Air Force addressed the gathering where he made mention of the value added to the SLAF by all the individual who were felicitated at the ceremony and stated that this would serve to motivate all men and women to perform well in the coming years.
Based on the criteria established by the respective directorates, 03 finalists were nominated for consideration to be honored for their outstanding performance in each trade and for their contribution to the development of the SLAF during 2010. In the selection round three members headed by the Chief of Staff will choose the winners based on the marks they had obtained.
Accordingly, the candidate who obtained the highest points from the above selection round was awarded the Most Outstanding Airman or Airwoman trophy.
The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama graced the occasion as the chief guest and Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, members of the AFBM, Base Commander Katunayake Air Commodore Ranil Gurusinghe, Chairman Organizing Committee and Deputy Director Aeronautical Engineering Air Commodore LHA Silva were also amongst the distinguished invitees.
Officers, the senior most airman and woman of the Air Force, Master Warrant Officer Jayasundara and Warrant Officer Nilanthi and men and women representing all establishments of the SLAF were also present on this occasion.
Following airmen were awarded as the best airman of the respective branches.
