A presentation and display on ‘Angampora’ was conducted by the SLAF Angampora team for Air Wing School Cadets attending their annual Selection Camp at SLAF CTS Diyatalawa on 6th May 2014.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps and the patronage of the Commanding Officer and training staff of SLAF CTS Diyatalawa.

Air Wing School Cadets representing twenty-eight schools participated for the presentation and display.  After a brief introduction on the art of ‘Angampora’ and its importance by the Chairman Angampora Air Commodore CB Labrooy, a detailed presentation on the indigenous art, its history, values, and present day use was conducted by ‘Angam Muhandiram’ Dr. Ajantha Mahantharachchi followed by a display.  A great deal of enthusiasm was seen amongst the youngsters during the entire programme.

The display included the use of various types of fighting techniques including ‘Geta Haramba’ (gripping knots), neutralizing opponents and the use of pressure point technique.

This was yet another step forward in the ongoing efforts by the Air Force under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force to promote and sustain the noble fighting art of ‘Angampora’.
