The Sri Lanka Air Force ceremonially declared open “Sky Legacy – Care Home”, a dedicated facility for retired Air Force personnel, at Bandaranayakewatta, SLAF Base Katunayake on 22 March 2026, marking a significant milestone in line with the SLAF 75th Anniversary Celebrations.
The ceremony was graced by the 19th Commander of the Air Force and High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to South Africa, His Excellency Air Chief Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa (Retd), as Chief Guest, and attended by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, senior officers and representatives from RAFOA and SLAFESA.
In his address, the Chief Guest commended the initiative and highlighted the importance of ensuring care and dignity for retired personnel who have served the nation.
“Sky Legacy” has been established to provide a secure and comfortable environment for Air Force veterans, with the project developed under the supervision of the Directorate of Welfare and constructed by the Directorate of Construction Engineering. The facility was completed through welfare funds, fundraising initiatives, raffle draws, and contributions from the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit.
During the event, the Commander of the Air Force presented a memento to the Chief Guest. The President of SLAFESA, Air Vice Marshal Hemantha Soysa (Retd), donated a wheelchair and contributed Rs. 500,000 for the continued development of the facility as a gesture of support for veteran welfare.
